With Cuba’s lack of internet it can be difficult to track down the best restaurants in the country. Though some gems you will just have to stumble into, here are a few of my favorites that you shouldn’t leave the island without paying a visit to.
Gato Prieto, Vedado, Havana
Street 13, 68 | M, Vedado, Havana, Cuba
Hands down my favorite restaurant that I visited in Cuba was Gato Prieto. This cat themed restaurant is nestled in a neighborhood street in Vedado. Though I didn’t see any real cats in the restaurant, the nearby sidewalks are covered in furry kitties waiting for your attention. Inside the restaurant, paintings of black cats adorn the orange walls. But it’s not just the decor that makes this place great – the food is also some of my favorite that I tried while in Cuba. I got one of their pastas which was the purrfect pairing with the rainy day outside. Not to mention the friendly staff who let me take my picture behind their bar! When in Havana, this is a must – try.
Doña Nora, Cienfuegos
Calle 37 | #4219 E/ 42 And 44, Cienfuegos 55100, Cuba
Doña Nora is a French inspired restaurant set above one of the shopping streets of Cienfuegos. Sip a mixed drink from their huge drink list on the balcony and watch the sunset or eat at the upscale dining area inside. Doña Nora also has a live band taking requests of your favorite Spanish songs. I went here both of my two nights in the city because I couldn’t get enough of it. Just look for the marble steps leading you up to this ideal dinner location.
Los Conspiradores, Trinidad
Calle Cristo, Trinidad 62600, Cuba
Located to the left of the stairs leading up to the Casa De Musica (highly recommended destination for a night out), Los Conspiradores is some of the finest dining you will find in Trinidad. The perfect destination for outdoor dining of pasta and mojitos under tree branches covered in pink flowers. Live music and helpful waiters were abundant and we had many little lizard visitors running through the outdoor area to keep us entertained while we ate.
C/ Salvador Cisneroros. No 55 | Junto, Parque Estatal, Vinales, Cuba
My favorite town in Cuba is Vinales, and Cubar is certainly my favorite restaurant there! So much so that I went back multiple times to taste their piña coladas and their turkey and cran sandwiches. The cutest little patio restaurant allows for ideal people watching right across form the main town square. Pull up to one of their barrel tables and order up!
The very first restaurant I ate at in Cuba was Viky’s which remained one of my favorites throughout the trip. This elegant two-story restaurant serves the finest seafood at prices that Americans will find unbelievably inexpensive. The black and white modern decor inside comes equipped with a piano player to set the mood for your evening. On warmer Havana nights, the balcony is also available to dine on your lobster and enjoy the Cuban breeze.
Have you been to Cuba? What are your favorite restaurants?
